What is EB-5?
The EB‑5 Immigrant Investor Program is a visa program offering green cards through investment. It is a U.S. immigration pathway that allows foreign investors to obtain a Green Card by investing in the American economy and creating jobs (at least 10 jobs).
How much to invest?
Typically, investments start at $800,000 in Targeted Employment Areas (TEAs). Or, $1,050,000 for Standard Projects located outside Targeted Employment Areas.
Note: Not All money has to be invested at once.
What are the risks?
If approved, the Investor (plus Spouse and Unmarried Children under 21) receives:
Conditional Permanent Residency (valid for 2 years)
Permanent Residency after proving the investment created the required jobs
Eligibility for U.S. citizenship after meeting naturalization requirements (typically 5 years as a permanent resident)
Processing times vary. If the Investor is located in the United States, the temporary Green Card for the entire family, can be process in as little as 90 days (it will require a change of status from the type of Visa they currently have to the EB5).
If the Investor is outside the United States, often take between 6 months to 2 years. The total time varies depending on your country, whether you choose a reserved category, and USCIS processing speed.
